Poke the Globe at Metsäkartano
“Poke the Globe - Culture Near and Far”
14 Volunteers – 7 Countries
With the support of the European Solidarity Corps, Metsäkartano Youth Center is organizing a cultural-themed volunteer project from October 14th to November 3rd, 2023.
A group of fourteen volunteers have arrived at Metsäkartano in Rautavaara, Finland, in the midst of the darkest autumn days, to participate in volunteer work. Volunteers come from France, Algeria, Portugal, Ukraine, Spain, Italy/Colombia/Romania, and Finland. The ‘Poke the Globe’ project has been ongoing since 2012.
Cultural Immersion for young people
Over the course of three weeks, volunteers will plan and execute the ‘Poke the Globe’ event at Metsäkartano - 31.10.2023. This event will host 100-250 students, along with their teachers and young people with youth workers from various regions of Northern Savo. The primary goal of the event is to provide young people with knowledge about different cultures and spark their interest in global youth-related matters. Additionally, the participants of ‘Poke the Globe’ will gain insights into international opportunities within the European Union.
During the ‘Poke the Globe’ event, volunteers will conduct various workshops for the visiting students. They will also provide cultural immersions, sharing information and skills from their respective countries. Throughout the three weeks, volunteers will visit local schools, organizing international sessions for the students.
European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+
The European Solidarity Corps and Erasmus+ offer young people the opportunity to internationalize and explore new cultures. These EU programs are open to all young people aged 13 to 30 and organizations that aspire to engage in international activities.
